Bamboo Dreams by Takehiro Ueyama
"Bamboo Dreams". Inspired by the bamboo forest in Kyoto, Japan. A new life sprouts from a decaying fallen tree and reaches its own roots to grow lush leaves. The sun watches over the life passing down through lives, while the spirit of life is wondering on forever.
Humans have always coexisted with forests, but, where forests collapse, so do civilizations. Forests capture CO2 (purifying the air), store water (prevent erosion and excessive flooding), nourish living things (offering home and sustenance for the ecosystem), among other imperative climate-change buffers. Japan relies heavily on its abundance of these forests --if trees around the world fall one by one, stripped of the resources to replenish themselves, what does that mean for human civilization?
World premiere of "Bamboo Dreams" in October 2023 at Arts on Site NYC, 12 St Marks Place, New York.
