Mariangela Lopez

"TEZ" arose during the pandemic as a need to coexist in public spaces and bring my creative practice outdoors. "TEZ" means skin in Spanish and is used to describe the most external and tender layer of our bodies. The movement practice began by invoking the memories stored in the skin creating interactions from sensorial and emotional responses of different urban and nature sites, where our practice took place. Once we were able to bring the research back into the studio our skin became the net that webbed the memories of our past experiences. During these difficult times I felt like our skin hardened, losing its permeability while we became foreigners of our own sensations. Therefore I wanted to create a practice that would reclaim the skin, re-discovering the power of touching and being touched. What once felt so natural, it was now like a radical act of existence.
